Another form of smokeless fuel, anthracite coal is a very popular choice of alternative fuel among homeowners. This fuel remains smokeless for a long time – it can burn for up to 24 hours, emitting considerable heat without any smoke.

Natural anthracite is slightly more expensive per kilogram than other fuels, but it more than makes up for the initial expense with its economical usage. The lack of tar produced makes it perfect for glass-fronted fires, with smaller ‘beans’ and ‘grains’ ideal for gravity fed boilers.
